Worship in the Church of Christ in Sandtown is scriptural in practice as was taught by the Apostles of the New Testament Church. We encourage you to investigate and compare this church with the one described in your Bible. Our aim is to bring men and women to Christ in a life committed to dedicated service. The Scripture is our standard of authority and the Lord Jesus Christ is our Author of Salvation (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 12:2). We let His Word state the conditions of salvation.
Luke 13:3, 5
1 Corinthians 15:58
The church of Christ – the only church mentioned in the Bible -- is the church Christ died to save! This is the church He founded when He told the apostle Peter, “Upon this rock, I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18) and the church for which He was crucified. The church has one head and that is Jesus Christ Himself (Colossians 1:17-19). The churches of Christ are independent Christian congregations connected with one another through faith in Jesus Christ and the common belief that God saves and adds to His church those who hear the Gospel of Christ and believe it, repent of sin, confess Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and are baptized for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:36-47). Our practices are biblical, based on the doctrine of the Holy Scriptures alone as described in the New Testament. The purpose of the Church of Christ at Sandtown is to magnify and glorify God by being an instrument of teaching the one true Gospel: baptizing believers according to the scriptures, then further teaching those baptized to observe all things commanded by Christ. Our purpose also is to develop and nurture spiritually strong, scripturally sound Christians who are faithful to God and committed to serving Christ and humanity through sacrifice and love.
The mission of the Church of Christ in Sandtown is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the city of Baltimore and the world in fulfillment of Christ’s call on our lives to preach and teach the Gospel to all nations. (Mark 16:15-16; Matthew 28:18-20)
WHAT DO WE TEACH?
We believe that the Holy Scripture is divinely inspired, unfailing, and reliable. We reference scripture to settle any and every religious question because scripture is the final word from God. The Holy Scripture is our only doctrine and the basis for all teaching and preaching of the Gospel (Galatians 1:8-9; 1 Timothy 1:3-4).
WHAT ABOUT BAPTISM?
Originating from the Greek word "baptizo," baptism means "to immerse," and immersion was the practice of the church in the book of Acts. We believe that immersion is the only form of baptism that conforms to its description as a burial and resurrection given by the apostle Paul (Romans 6:3-5; 1 Peter 3:21).
WHEN DO WE ASSEMBLE?
We believe that the Body of Christ is to assemble for worship on the first day of the week (Acts 20:7; Hebrews 10:25).
